This project was very interesting as the client had a number of wells in Indonesia where the datum of the co-ordinates for the wells was not well-defined. Also, the co-ordinates of the wells themselves were suspect. As a result of a lot of research we established the geodetic datum and Bursa-Wolfe seven parameter transformations that were used to define the wells' datum originally. A field survey was also conducted in order to establish good co-ordinates on the wells. This GPS data was then processed and transformed into the local Indonesian mapping system and new maps were generated showing the updated positions of the wells. This enabled the client to analyze their information much more easily and allow a seamless integration of the well locations into the client's existing database.
